Helps with my Binge Eating Disorder

I'm going to come out with a bold statement - I believe this is the closest I have come to achieving the management of my binge eating disorder.

I've done all kinds of counselling/therapy, read just about every book there is, meds with nasty side effects, and nothing..nothing.. comes close to this. Anyone who has endured a true binge eating disorder will know the misery of this horrible affliction. The hack does something...I don't know what...but it re-sets my hungry brain, maybe it signals that I'm in a fed state, or satiety hormones or maybe I feel full and satisfied without that bloated yukky feeling that triggers BED. Who knows, all I know is it works for me. I start each week with a 3 day hack and then am able to spend the rest of the week eating like a normal human should, no thoughts of binging and craving only healthy meat and veggies. It is different to every mono diet hack out there. Who would have thought POTATOES would have this effect; it's crazy beyond belief.

Thank you so much Tim; I'm so grateful to you, you have no idea how much. Please anyone out there with any binge eating issues maybe consider this hack. It goes well beyond the weight loss; in fact for me the weight loss is icing on the cake (or butter on the potato) it's the regulation of brain/head/hedonistic hunger that is it's true worth. Please, if you suffer from BED or have a loved one battling it, perhaps give this a try, nothing to lose.

Go Potato!!!

Read this book if you want to lose weight, stay healthy while doing it, and not feel hungry all the time. The potato hack is not for masochists. It's for people who want to be able to function and not be walking around like half starved zombies. You'll not only lose weight but at the same time will have energy and mental acuity.

Tim Steele has thoroughly investigated the benefits of the potato to human health. There is a great deal of information in this book presented in a highly readable format. I've been reading Tim's blog since its inception so you'd think I wouldn't learn anything new but that's not the case at all. The book synthesizes all that material and much more.

Even if you don't want to do the potato hack, this book will convince you that adding potatoes to the diet (not french fries or potato chips) is a very intelligent move. Your grocery bill will go down significantly. Anything this nutritious that costs about 30 cents per pound, reduces your intake of foods that cost anywhere from $3 to $15 per pound PLUS keeps you well nourished, lowers your blood pressure (potatoes are a potassium bomb), decreases inflammation, and yeah, lose weight, what's not to like?

P.S. Potatoes don't cause dental caries. That's a megaplus too. You can have your 'carbs' and not worry about dental decay!

I have never been so happy to be proven wrong

When I first heard about the Potato Hack I thought it was far too unorthodox to be effective. However, I have never been so happy to be proven wrong. I've been following Mr. Tim Steele's articles and postings about resistant starch and potatoes for several years now and have always been impressed by both his knowledge and his interactions with other people online. Far too often today we see people getting in arguments online...especially about diet and weight loss (ie the I'm Right and my diet is THE BEST, etc). Tim always presents his findings with kindness and a little humor and encourages people to try his ideas rather instead of trying to force people to accept them. I have come to have the utmost respect for his both his knowledge and his ability to discuss his findings like a gentleman.

The Potato Hack is a culmination of his work and is hands down the most fascinating "diet" book I have ever read. And I have read and tried more than I can probably count. I have dealt with obesity for most of my childhood and adult life - as I commonly tell people that I have 25 years of experience with diet and weight loss - 10 years of success and 15 years of utter failure. So what has worked for me is to never follow any specific diet religiously - I have learned what works and what does not work for me from each and every diet I have tried. The Potato Hack, however, is not a diet - it is a very powerful tool that can and will provide immense benefits to anyone struggling with obesity or GI issues. But this book has so much more - besides the how to for the hack you get variations and a wealth of scientific information to back up Tim's work. And even more information on resistant starch, gut health and bacteria.

Like many people I was on the paleo/primal "carbs are BAD!" bandwagon and at one point stopped eating grains and starches completely. And in the process, I destroyed my gut health unknowingly. I only wish I had listened to Tim a little sooner because while going low carb may help people lose weight initially - the long term effects can be dangerous for some people. Our ancestors certainly ate meat, but they also ate starches and tubers...so not having these foods in our diets doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I just finished my first 3 day Potato Hack and lost a total of 7 pounds and one inch off my waist. Simply amazing. And more importantly, my morning fasting glucose levels have dropped a good 10-15 points to around 75. Since there are diabetics on both sides of my family I have often thought of myself as a pre-diabetic as certain foods really spike my blood sugar...however as Tim discusses in the book - adding healthy starches back to your diet can help cure this. Potatoes are not bags of sugar or empty calories - they are powerhouses of healing nutrients that can and will get your body working at its best. And as an added bonus, they are cheap and easy to obtain.

But don't just take my word for it. Give the Potato Hack a try...you have nothing to lose except a few pounds of body fat!
